OPAP LECTURES ONLINE: "Viruses and the Oral Cavity"

"Viruses and the Oral Cavity"
By Dr. Lordjie Morilla

Humans have been co-existing with viruses since time immemorial. Different viral infections affect the oral cavity and its related structures. These give rise to short-term local illnesses like herpes simplex infections and Human Immunodeficiency viruses (HIV) infection. These viral infections can cause significant orofacial diseases that will increase patient morbidity and possibly lead to an early death. This lecture presents details of the viral infections that may commonly affect the oral cavity and related structures and some updates regarding the current pandemic. The epidemiology of viral infections is ever-changing; hence, health care providers are encouraged to maintain knowledge of virally driven diseases that may impact upon the health and clinical care of their relevant specialty.
